Today, the Air Force released an artist rendering of the Long Range Strike Bomber, or LRS-B, the latest stealth bomber that will one day replace the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress (likely after a staggering 100 years of service), as well as the Boeing B-1B Lancer and Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit. The Air Force has designated the LRS-B as the B-21, but so far, it has no nickname. Since this drawing looks a whole heck of a lot like the B-2, one has to wonder if the new bomber will look like this at all, or if this is just an image for public (read: Russian and Chinese) consumption. Initial capability (the Lockheed Martin F-35 has supposedly reached initial capability, so take that with a grain of salt) is planned for 2025 (or so), and the Air Force plans to pay about $550 million apiece for them, a price that is sure to go skyward.

Good point. I don’t see any exhaust outlets and you’d assume that they’d be on top for radar detection minimization. I think you’re right. This is the equivalent of the stock photo that comes in a frame you purchase at Walmart.
